Description

The Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) was a downward-looking, W-band (94.05 GHz) pulsed radar system aboard the CloudSat satellite, designed to measure Earth's cloud properties from space. Operating with a pulse repetition frequency between 3,700 and 4,300 Hz, a pulsewidth of 3.3 µs, and a peak power of 1.6 kW, the CPR utilized an Extended Interaction Klystron (EIK) transmitter. Launched on June 2, 2006, the radar had an instrumented range of 30 km, a range resolution of 485 m, and a beamwidth of less than 0.12°. The mission concluded in 2023, and the radar is no longer operational.
