Description
The Type 04 or AAM-5 is an advanced short-range air-to-air missile being developed by Japan to equip its upgraded F-15J/DJ fighter aircraft. The improved AAM-5 missile features improved infrared counter countermeasures (IRCCM) and improved background detection capability. The missile's cooled infrared seeker has extended service hours to allow the Japanese F-15s air defense patrols involving an air refueling which could make the flight last for several hours.
