The US Coast Guard Arctic Security Cutter (ASC) is a new medium-class icebreaker designed to carry out a wide range of security missions in polar waters. The ship will be able to deal with ice with a thickness of up to 3-inch. The vessels are provided with a flight deck for a single MH-60 helicopter. The US Coast Guard expects to commission the first ship in 2028 under a contract awarded to Rauma and Bollinger Shipyards in December 2025. The US Coast Guard contract was for six vessels two build by Rauma in Finland and another four build by Bollinger in the United States.
