Description

The KALKAN (Turkish for "shield") is an X-band, 3D battlefield radar system designed for low- and medium-range air defense operations. It features electronic scanning in elevation from -10° to +55° and a multi-beam phased-array antenna, enabling fast and accurate detection and tracking of low-altitude air targets up to 100 km. The system can track multiple targets, providing classification and identification data to command and control (C2) systems via radio, while also receiving commands. KALKAN is a compact, trailer-mounted standalone system towed by a tactical truck, and it serves as the primary radar for the Turkish Armed Forces’ mobile Air Defense Early Warning and Command Control System (HERİKKS) and Medium Altitude Air Defense Missile System.
