WildCat

The Wildcat is a 18-t class, multi-role, all-terrain armored wheeled vehicle developed by the IMI and Zoko Enterprises of Israel to deal with asymmetric threats based on the lessons learned by the Israel Defense Force (IDF) and the US Army. Basically, the WildCat is a 4x4 armored personnel carrier protected against rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and mines. The vehicle is based on a high mobility 4x4 chassis developed by TATRA and incorporates IMI's armor kits. It is well suited for a variety of combat scenarios: conventional and urban warfare, low intensity conflicts, and operations other than war such as law enforcement, peacekeeping missions and border protection. A WildCat armored vehicle can transport up to 12 fully equipped infantrymen as well as logistics supplies and onboard weapons. Its V-shaped hull offers protection against mine blasts and IEDs. The modular ballistic protection is provided in three levels: A is the basic level and provides protection against 7.62mm armor piercing ammunition; B protects against IEDs, explosive formed penetrators (EFPs) and 14.5mm armor piercing projectiles; and C consists of Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) kit intended against RPGs and other shoulder-launched munitions and/or missiles. Besides, the Wildcat can be equipped with the Iron First active defense system countering a variety of anti-tank munitions. The vehicle can be airlifted by C-130, C-17 and A400M aircraft. The WAVE Assault Stabilized Remotely Operated Weapon Station along with the vehicle's firing ports enable the WildCat to engage hostile forces. It is powered by EURO III emissions compliant Cummins ILSe+325 turbocharged direct injection diesel engine developing 325-hp. Optionally, the vehicle can be fitted with mine blast protected seats, automatic fire suppression system, air conditioning, heating system, smoke grenade launching devices and Nuclear Bacteriological and Chemical (NBC) protection suite. Fitted with the proper equipment the WildCat can serve as command and control vehicle, surveillance and reconnaissance vehicle, medical evacuation vehicle, recovery vehicle and combat support vehicle. The United States Marine Corps evaluated the WildCat under the Marine Personal Carrier (MPC) at Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) in 2008. The Israel Defense Forces will also evaluate the vehicle to meet its requirements. The WildCat is expected to enter low rate initial production (LRIP) phase at the end of 2008.
